Cross Lane Bible Church
Team Conducts Vacation Bible School on Carriacou

One of the main reasons for the CLBC team coming was to
conduct a Vacation Bible School (VBS). We have hosted two other VBSs on
Carriacou, one in 1994, and the other in 1998. (I hope
to present photo records of those in the near future) The Lord blessed
on each occasion and made them very profitable for His kingdom.
As in the past, our goal was to reach the children that live
in the general location served by Windward
Bible Church (WBC). The school was aimed at children 5 - 14 years
of age. However, a few attended that were both a little older and a little
younger. We turned no one away.
The Ministry of Education for the Government of
Grenada graciously granted us permission to use the facilities of Dover
Government School.

The team began on Thursday by canvassing each of the
communities on the northern end of Carriacou for a couple of days. They
divided into smaller groups, were guided by our own young people, and visited house to
house in the villages of Windward, Dover, Limlair, Belvedere, Bogles, and
Belair. However, children that regularly attend our services at WBC from
Mt. Pleasant, Hillsborough, and Brunswick also attended.

the location and villages reached.
The school was conducted from 10:00 AM till noon, on Friday,
Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Each day was filled with several
exciting and stimulating
activities.
The students were challenged to memorize Bible verses and
bring new people each day. This gave them an opportunity to earn a special
type of money tickets that would enable them to buy toys at a special store the team
set up. The students loved it and worked very hard to earn as much as
possible!
During the school the team conducted games, performed
humorous skits, related moving missionary stories, and presented thought
provoking messages geared for the younger listeners. At the conclusion of
each day, the gospel was clearly presented, and some responded each day,
with follow up counseling for each.

The Team Gets the
Facilities Ready and Set Up

They began by sizing up the main assembly hall ... |

Untangling the stack of chairs ... |

... and getting the chairs placed in the most useful arrangement.
|

About forty-five minutes later
they were going over their plans
and waiting for the children to arrive. |

The Children
The children began to arrive slowly at first. The first day
I believe about 60 came. The numbers increased steadily every day, and some
140 to 150 attended on the last day.
Here is a sampling of the children that attended ...
As you can see, our field of ministry is blessed
with a beautiful diversity. The children are eager to learn and are very smart. Their
young hearts are also tender and receptive.

A Typical Day
at School

Each day began with registering newcomers, ... |

... gathering student information, handing out materials, and explaining
what each was expected to do. |

Students that arrived early each subsequent day had a
chance to recite passages and earn ticket money. |

At 10:00 AM, the students were led into the main assembly.
The day began with prayer and singing songs. |

Afterward they were divided by age into three groups. They were taught
the "Gospel Hand" and Bible verses. |

In their respective groups they also heard challenging,
adventurous, and
moving missionary stories ... |

... complete with colorful and eye grabbing illustrations |

There was also time allotted for playing games outside. |

The children were very cooperative, ... |

... and very competitive! |

After the game time, refreshments were prepared, ... |

..., served, and consumed ravenously. |
|

After refreshments, they were led back into
the assembly hall and sang more songs, ... |

... saw skits that featured "Banana Man,"
given a chance to respond to the gospel, and ended the day in prayer. |

Throughout the day, team members spent time with
individuals, to ... |

... help each memorize Bible verses, ... |

... explain the verses, ... |

... listen to the verses recited back, ... |

... mark their sheets, ... |

... answer questions about Jesus Christ and the free
gift of eternal life, ... |

... and to help any who expressed a desire to receive
Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. |

In Conclusion
I believe the Vacation Bible School conducted by the team from
Cross Lanes Bible Church was blessed of God and used to reach many children with the
Gospel of Jesus Christ. It also served as a needed ministry to us at
Windward Bible Church.
All members of the team conducted themselves with exemplary
behavior and cooperated in godly harmony each day.
I count it a privilege for them to have helped us in this way. I
am looking forward to a return visit.
Note: In perusing the thumbnails, I
noticed that not all of the team members were featured here. I wish I had
web-space to post all the 500+ photos, but I do not. However, I assure you
that all participated and worked very hard to teach the children of
Carriacou more about Jesus and His marvelous free
gift
of eternal life.
