The Nature of Jesus Christ
Jesus is the eternal
and creator God
John 1:13, 14
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and
the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God. 3All
things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.... 14And
the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the
only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Hebrews 1:49
4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance
obtained a more excellent name than they. 5For unto which of the angels
said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be
to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? 6And again, when he
bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God
worship him. 7And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and
his ministers a flame of fire. 8But unto the Son he saith, Thy
throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the
sceptre of thy kingdom.
Allowed Himself to be called God
John 20:2429
24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with
them when Jesus came. 25The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have
seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the
nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I
will not believe. 26And after eight days again his disciples were within, and
Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst,
and said, Peace be unto you. 27Then saith
he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and
reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but
believing. 28And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and
my God. 29Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because
thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen,
and yet have believed.
Accepted Worship as only God should
Matthew 8:23
2And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him,
saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 3And Jesus put forth his
hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And
immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
Luke 24:5053
50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and
blessed them. 51And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from
them, and carried up into heaven. 52And they worshipped him,
and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: 53And were continually in the temple,
praising and blessing God. Amen.
John 9:3538
35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said
unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? 36He
answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? 37And Jesus
said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh
with thee. 38And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped
him.
Unbelievers
correctly understood Jesus' words to mean that He is God
John 10:3333
30 I and my Father are one. 31Then
the Jews took up stones again to stone him. 32Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works
do ye stone me? 33The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we
stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
Jesus claimed to be eternal
John 8:5659
56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he
saw it, and was glad. 57Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not
yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? 58Jesus said unto
them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
59Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out
of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
The Bible teaches that Jesus is
eternal
Hebrews 7:13
1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met
Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; 2To whom
also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of
righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; 3Without
father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of
life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.
The Nature of His First Coming
Conceived by the Holy Spirit
Matthew 1:2025
20But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord
appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take
unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
21And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he
shall save his people from their sins. 22Now all this was done, that it might
be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23Behold,
a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name
Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. 24Then
Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto
him his wife: 25And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son:
and he called his name JESUS.
Luke 1:3035
30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour
with God. 31And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring
forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 32He shall be great, and
shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of
his father David: 33And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of
his kingdom there shall be no end. 34Then said Mary unto the angel, How
shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35And the angel answered and said unto
her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow
thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son
of God.
His Body Specially Prepared
Hebrews 10:5
5Wherefore when he [i.e., Jesus] cometh into the world, he saith,
Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
All
Mankind Inherited its Sin Nature Through Adam's Disobedience
Romans 5:12
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by
sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Performed Deeds That Only God Can
Created the World
John 1:13, 14
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and
the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God. 3All
things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made....
14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory,
the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
1 Corinthians 8:6
6But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are
all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all
things, and we by him.
Colossians 1:1317
13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us
into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14In whom we have redemption through his
blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15Who is the image of the invisible
God, the firstborn of every creature: 16For by him were all things
created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they
be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by
him, and for him: 17And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Hebrew 1:12
1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the
fathers by the prophets, 2Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his
Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
Demonstrated Control Over the Natural Elements and Laws
Mark 4:39
39And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
Forgive Sins
Mark 2:511
5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee. 6But there were certain
of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, 7Why doth this man
thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only? 8And
immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he
said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts? 9Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be
forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? 10But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive
sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) 11I say unto thee,
Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
Redeem Mankind From The Cursed Sin Nature
Titus 2:13
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God
and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14Who gave himself for us, that he might
redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good
works.
